this video bases on footage from 70´s 8mm color-films, which were copied on VHS by simply using a cheap VHS Camera only to be manipulated in digital non-linear video-editing. temporary loss of color is caused by the unstable color burst of the analog video footage.

this video delivers a technical interpretation of what gradient communication stands for: it´s the evolution of significance along the media transitions from chemical film via analog video to digital editing and storage. this process is accompanied by a considerable change in the footage´s significance.

the title emphasizes this transition: did the 8mm-film serve as a memory- expansion in the first place, the sheer size of the original footage and the output file require serious amounts of GigaBytes.
