this video was created in may 2002 using a dvcam and apple´s imovie application. it features a room in an old storehouse in the hamburg sea-port, the floor being covered with salt. in an email, andre described his way to work with audio as well as video: "the creation of the videoclip "reality bites" is in some way typical for my way of working as gradient communication: at first there was only a vague idea to use the unique surrealist optic of this storehouse with it´s floor being completely covered with salt. the recordings were done as a test for the new dv-camera, which i could use for the first time as well as for imovie which i never used before. to stress the surrealistic athmosphere of the room, i stretched the video track here-with creating dramatic artefacts in the audio-track to make the music almost complete without adding any external audio. i willingly accepted the video as well as the audio track to be "boring" and "static" because this seemed to emphasize the surreal athmosphere of the room in a most interesting way."
ot: one week after these recordings were made, this room served as a backstage room for robbie williams on a product presentation.
